Arshile Gorky Competition 2024-2025

Arshile Gorky Competition 2024-2025

Dear AUA Students,

The Highlander Magazine is pleased to announce that it is now accepting submissions for the 2024-2025 academic year “Arshile Gorky Competition!” funded by the Vahé & Lucie Foundation.

This year’s theme revolves around Memory, Identity, and Home/Homeland. The theme will explore the complex relationship that people have with their homeland/home. The submitted article, photos, and graphic design/illustration should focus on stories highlighting people’s connection with their land and the landscape where they grew up and lived. The theme can highlight personal recollections and cultural notions, exploring the meaning of a sense of belonging and cultural identity.

The competition is open to full-time students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate students and 3.5 for graduate students. Students must be enrolled for the 2024-25 academic year on a full-time basis.

Submissions must be original pieces created specifically for this competition and without the use of AI tools. Students must be willing to have their piece published in the Highlander Magazine if they are selected as winners and to contribute a minimum of two works from their respective categories to the magazine.

The deadline for submissions is March 9, 2024, with winners to be announced in April, 2024. There will be three award categories: Best Writer, Best Graphic Designer/Illustrator, and Best Photographer.

Please see the attached document for full details regarding submissions.
