AUA Street Style

As members of an educational institution that encourages individuality and personal voice, students at AUA have their unique sense of fashion, which is reflected in their everyday outfits.

Looking back at the history of fashion, wearing a specific clothing style was mainly associated with a person’s profession, social and economic status. Although the fashion industry underwent groundbreaking changes throughout the centuries, what remains the same are the motives. Like any other kind of art, style has its own language and people use it to express themselves and distinguish themselves from others around them.

When trying to define fashion, it usually involves currently popular clothes. More recently, the fashion world witnessed the evolution of street style, which is fashion derived from alternative areas instead of the mainstream fashion industry and it is often being developed from youth culture and urban areas.

It is safe to say that there are a variety of street styles at AUA, yet they all are unique in their own ways, trying to stand out and make a statement.

First, we have this sage green monochromic set which might seem simple at first, but the student paired it off with black platform shoes and layers of necklaces which pull the outfit together. As some might recall, pearl necklaces became trendy during the past two years and they were found everywhere, whether in big fashion brands or your local accessories store.

Another similar look was spotted on a male AUA student; the outfit is simple, yet the smallest of details make it stand out. The fur-trimmed suede forest green jacket and the yellow-gold chain necklace elevate the basic white-tee and jeans outfit.

Drifting away from the simple outfits, we came across this one in the hall. The student is wearing a pink and red printed sweater which might come off as nostalgic, as the pattern is quite similar to the background picture of the famous TV cartoon The PowerPuff Girls. The statement top is paired with simple black flare jeans, which were famous during the late 1990s and early 2000s and had recently made a comeback. The accessories are also noticeable on the student as she paired a classical Vivienne Westwood Pearl necklace with large black headphones, which overshadow the necklace. Headphones were replaced by earphones or Air pods more recently. Yet reusing such headphones indicates revival and nostalgia.

Looking at this outfit, one of the instant thoughts is comfort and timelessness. This student paired a white-knit sweater with a pair of dark wash jeans and the timeless Converse All stars. What elevates the outfit is, once again, the accessories; the black strapped watch and mustard yellow color knit scarf give a combination of fun and elegance.

One more trend that has been thriving lately is vintage band T-shirts. The student paired her Nirvana oversized T-shirt with cuffed beige cargo pants, black vinyl boots and a quartz chakra necklace.

If you are a student or have ever visited AUA, you would know that the most beloved attire for some male students is the head-to-toe black outfit. Here we have another one of the popular outfits but a more elevated one thanks to the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “UNC Obsidian,” which became more popular during the past two years.

The last outfit that one can see here is this vibrant yet winter appropriate one. The low-cut black top paired with the blue floral midi-skirt is the exact motivation one needs to get through these last few weeks of winter and move forward to spring. What makes the outfit more winter appropriate are the Dr. Martens ankle boots. To top it off, the lilac purple chain shoulder bag is the perfect balance between the winter and spring combination.
