While it’s devastating to be away from your significant other – especially on romantic occasions – there are ways to grow closer and celebrate love despite the distance; the secret is creativity.

1. Cook for a virtual dinner date.

The virtual dinner date remains one of the classics of a long-distance relationship, but cooking the same meal together takes it to another level. It’s a fun activity that couples do to discover some of the hidden skills of their partners. You might end up cooking the same recipe during your next meetup.

2. Order flowers for delivery.

Who doesn’t love a beautiful bouquet? It’s another gesture that never fails to impress your significant other. There are various applications and online delivery services thatfacilitate the delivery of bouquets internationally; it only takes a few clicks to make your partner happy from miles away!

3. Send a care package.

You can be creative with the ideal box of happiness that you wish to send. From candy to cosmetics or a sweater with your signature perfume, fill up the box with your partner’s favorite items. This is a great way of surprising your significant other by showing that you know them well even when you aren’t physically together.

4. Try different wines virtually.

You can’t make it to a fancy chateau in France on Valentine’s Day? No problem. Bring a couple of bottles of your local wines and allow your partner to discover your country’s wines. If you want to be extra cute, consider shipping the bottle your partner liked most after your one-on-one wine-tasting review session.

5. Stream a movie or TV show.

This one’s the movie buffs’ favorite. One of the coolest innovations established during the pandemic is the browser extension that allows users to stream videos and movies on Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video with others simultaneously. Grab some snacks and enjoy a traditional rom-com with your significant other.

6. Create a Spotify playlist for them.

Being so far apart from your significant other, you will find yourself missing your partner more than usual on days like Valentine’s Day. So why not create something special that will remind them of you when you are not there – a unique Spotify playlist!

Include all the beats that remind you of your significant other as well as the songs that boast a special meaning to your relationship—like a song reminding you of an unforgettable memory or the ones that you play in the car together.

7. Have their favorite meal delivered.

If cooking is not your passion, and you prefer an alternative for your dinner date, surprising your partner by sending their favorite meal to their front door is a great idea. Sometimes, food itself is a love language.

8. Mail a bunch of letters.

Switching it up can be interesting when the typical communication between you is texting and calling. A few days before Valentine’s Day, you may mail your partner love letters – and even print out pictures of you two to send them as postcards. Lately, it’s rare to receive mail that isn’t a bill or an ordered package, making your love letters even more special and exciting to receive.

9. Plan your next trip.

That moment when you book a hotel or a flight ticket lifts up the excitement to the next level. It gives you something to look forward to, so much so that you start counting down the days. Even if it involves a staycation in the local area, changing scenery makes the occasion feel even more special compared to the usual trips.

10. Show up in Real Life.

What’s more romantic than a surprise visit? If you are able to get some time off work and you have the budget, why not? Showing up at your partner’s door unexpectedly remains the ultimate gift for celebrating love on the year’s most romantic day.
